When you are looking for a mortgage it is wise to consult two or three professionals that you know to be knowledgeable and stick with the one who makes you feel the most comfortable. Rates usually don't vary widely so calling a dozen lenders will only bring down you credit score. If you do consult up to three lenders within a two week period this will only count as one hit on your credit score and shouldn't really harm your score.
